Capcom has deployed a major free update for Resident Evil Requiem across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GeForce NOW. The update introduces various gameplay fixes alongside an end-game action mode titled Leon Must Die Forever.

Overview and Unlock Conditions

The new mode unlocks automatically upon completing the main story campaign. Unlike the slower pace of the core game where Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy investigate the Raccoon City Incident, this minigame emphasizes high-speed combat. Players must navigate through previously visited locations, battle stronger enemy variants, and defeat a final boss within a strict time limit. The update also adds PC support for the DualSense wireless controller, enabling adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and motion sensor features.

Gameplay Mechanics & Progression

The objective is to guide Leon from the Main Street of Wrenwood to the final encounter with Victor Gideon before the countdown expires. Progression relies on choosing routes via glowing red doors, with each path offering different enemy types and difficulty scaling. The mode features permadeath, meaning a single casualty resets all progress to the beginning. Players start equipped with the Blood Collector: Cloud 9 device. Killing enemies increases its value, which can be exchanged for Enhancer abilities categorized into Basic, Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers. Leon possesses eight Enhancer slots, two of which require Slot Expansions randomly hidden across the maps.

Map Stages & Navigation Paths

Depending on your playstyle and strategy, you have multiple paths that can ease or shorten your playthrough. The player begins at the Main Street of Wrenwood and progresses by choosing what area to go next via the glowing red doors, with each area having its own recommended level of difficulty and enemies. Standard stage bosses include Blister Borne, The Commander, and T-501, leading up to the final confrontation. Completing each cycle advances your rank, with the maximum difficulty reaching Rank 5.

Enemy Variants & Time Spinners System

Enemy spawn points, health, and variants are entirely fixed, but their mechanics vary by color. Red Variants are highly resistant to standard gunfire and can only be critically wounded with explosives, melee attacks, and gas canisters. Blue Variants are completely invulnerable unless you parry their attacks. Throughout the areas, special Midas Spinners and Aurora Spinners are scattered to help manage the clock. Shooting a Midas Spinner awards players 70 seconds. Aurora Spinners come in three distinct colors: Emerald rewards 120 seconds, Silver rewards 85 seconds, and Bronze rewards 50 seconds. Additionally, item crates with arson ranks from 1 to 3 stars contain randomized loot based on fixed item tables.

Speedrun Strategy

For optimal completion times, the fastest verified route goes from Main Street through the Care Center: Rehabilitation Ward, into East Raccoon City: Central Camp, and directly to Victor. This strategy requires players to bypass standard enemy encounters entirely, focus on looting weapon chests across the three preliminary zones, and rely on precise parrying to defeat Victor Gideon despite limited resource availability.

Merchandise and Franchise Announcements

Coinciding with the update, Capcom announced a wave of official apparel on Amazon, including thematic t-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, sweatshirts, and hoodies. Additionally, the first-ever Resident Evil amiibo figures, featuring Leon S. Kennedy and Grace Ashcroft, are scheduled for release on July 30. More announcements are expected later this year as part of the franchise's 30th anniversary celebrations.
